'Honeymoon stage' is over,
Mayor Lim says

By: KIT BAGAIPO

LIM, VELOSO

The 100-day honeymoon stage with Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso and his 10-man Sangguniang Panlungsod is over.

City Mayor Dan Lim declared this yesterday after the city lawmaking body withheld the approval of a P20-million supplemental budget which he sought.

During his three-year stint as city mayor, Lim said, this is the first time that a request for supplemental funding has been railroaded for over a month now.

Lim stressed that while he was able to survive during his previous term with only one councilor under his political camp, there is no reason why he can't survive with five of the city councilors supporting him all the way.

With this, the mayor said he will communicate with Veloso to lay down his own program and draw the line between the executive and legislative departments.

Veloso also chairs the committee on appropriations.

The supplemental funding was to be used mainly for the repair and maintenance of roads particularly those leading to the cemeteries in time for All Souls' Day when the public pay tribute to their dead.

The delayed approval of the supplemental fund was also raised by Kag. Leonides Borja during the SP's session last Wednesday but there was no clear explanation when it will be taken up.
