Lim commits to attend to environment

City Mayor Dan N. Lim yesterday assured to include in his major thrust the need for environmental protection to be strictly implemented in the city.

He assured that the much- delayed water treatment plant will be constructed after he is scheduled to invite the Mactan Water Rock group, the same entity which completed the water treatment plant in Panglao island.

He said that aside from this treatment plant, he ordered yesterday the reopening of the Dampas dumping site for garbage coming from Panglao which will eventually solve the problem on garbage disposal in the resort island.

The reopening of the dumpsite for Panglao wastes came in response to the request made by Gov. Erico Aumentado last Friday.

The construction of a water treatment facility is deemed necessary for the newly completed drainage system to be operational. Flooding has been observed in some areas in the city during heavy rains due to the non-functional system.

The public clamor for a water treatment plant came as the only protection to save the clean seawaters at the Tagbilaran City Port where the water outfall is located, one along Graham Ave., near the gasoline depot and the other somewhere in Manga district, this city.

Lim said that he will fast track the treatment plant as Hanjin Construction will turnover the project within next month.
