Six rob suspects fall

"Case is solved."

Police provincial director SSupt. Edgardo Ingking declared as two remaining suspects in the midday holdup of a Bank of Commerce van last Tuesday have been arrested.

In a string of police operations all six robbers who staged the robbery and bloody shootout are now in police custody.

SWS survey: Pardon Erap

MANILA. Almost half of Filipinos in Metro Manila and nearby provinces feel President Macapagal-Arroyo should pardon former President Joseph Estrada if he is found guilty of plunder.

This was one of the findings of a confidential survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations and commissioned by the political opposition.

"In case the Sandiganbayan declares Erap guilty, 48 percent say that GMA should pardon him immediately," read one of the highlights of the survey dubbed Project Theodore. Details of the survey were obtained from the opposition.

Power rate public hearing on Friday

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will hold its second round of public hearing this Friday on the application of a 16% power rate increase of Bohol Light Company Inc. (BLCI).

The hearing will be conducted even as the ERC has already granted a 25-centavo provisional increase which will take effect starting this month.

Czarina A. Saloma-Akpedonu, PhD was named 2007 Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) in the field of Sociology by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) during awarding ceremonies held recently at the Manila Hotel.

According to NAST, Saloma-Akpedonu received the award for her work which "can be considered as a marriage between technology and social science. Its impact lies on the way one views technology and its relation to culture and people's identity."

The recent daylight bank robbery holdup at the Bank of Commerce premises (along busy CPG Avenue) was a clear indication that armed suspects have gone bolder these

days. Per public perception, it may be because several recent smaller holdups and criminalities were left unsolved by the police authorities.
