Chocolate
Hills may well be into its way of being recognized as one
of the world's Seven New Wonders of Nature.
Latest
global online polls show that Chocolate Hills is consistently
improving its position, from the 17th place last week to 8th
place as of presstime last night.
A
month ago, the world famous hills was only in the 78th position,
way behind Tubbataha Reef, another Philippine site being nominated
into the global search for New 7 Wonders of Nature, a campaign
organized by the non-profit New7Wonders Foundation.

As
of latest poll, Tubbataha is on the 9th spot while the
third Philippine site nominated, Mayon Volcano, has
dropped out of the top-77 sites. Mayon Volcano had been
on 17th place two weeks ago.
Voting
is done online through www.new7wonders.com.
At
the start of the campaign for the 7 New Wonders of Nature,
some 200 nominations were submitted to the organizers
by some half a million people.

Nominations
and voting will continue until December 31, 2008. The top
77 sites, based on the number of global votes gathered, will
become the Official Nominees and will be eligible for consideration
by a Panel of Experts who will shortlist 21 finalists.
The
Panel of Experts will be chosen by New7Wonders Foundations
whose names will be withheld until the winners are announced.
The
top ten sites for the New 7 Wonders of Nature as of latest
poll are Ha Long Bay of Vietnam, Ganges River of Bangladesh
and India, the Amazon River of South America, Mount Everest
of Nepal, Cocos Island in Costa Rica, Mount Fuji of Japan,
Angel Falls of Venezuela, Lake Atitlan of Guatemala and the
Niagara Falls in Canada and the United States.
Meanwhile,
Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim is flying to the United States today
to officially launch an international campaign in support
of Chocolate Hills. The mayor is tasked by Gov. Erico Aumentado
together with Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry president
Norris Oculam to spearhead the campaign for Chocolate Hills.
Lim
said that the panel of experts that will eventually choose
the 7 Wonders of Nature will evaluate the extent of support
a particular site gets worldwide.
