BRIDGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

For the past couple of months, we just keep mum over the internal power struggle in the national level of the Couples for Christ because we cannot afford to join its funeral. The time, effort, resources and use of talent we poured in to help CFC grow in the province since the mid 90's not even worth mentioning.

From 1995 to 2001, CFC in Bohol grew by leaps and bounds as its structure and operational mechanism seemed perfect for Christian couples. The ministries expanded including the Kids for Christ, Singles for Christ, Handmaids of the Lord and the Servants of the Lord.

Then came the Gawad Kalinga which started out as a practical evangelization by building houses for homeless families. Unfortunately, it caused the CFC's polarization.

There is now a full-blown verbal fireworks between Frank Padilla's breakaway group against Tony Meloto and Joe Tale's GK, which is accused of promoting the use of contraceptives among the communities it helped because some of GK's corporate partners favored population control and the use of contraceptives. In other words, GK is accused of not pushing for natural planning-as prescribed by the Catholic Church.

This prompted the Vatican to intervene and sought for a "public reparation" of this "public scandal", the terms used by Stanislaw Cardinal Rylko, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity in his letter to Tale dated March 11 and urged GK "to stop receiving this type of funding" in order to help recover CFC's good standing.

Oh my, how we envy Mike Velarde's El Shaddai and the construction of its ultra-modern and highly sophisticated place of worship which will soon become one of Manila's newest city.

So why do we have to worry about crisis? It's practically in all field of human life.

According to Erap Estrada, we are not wanting of any crisis. We have a lots of them: rice, fuel, population, etc.

But the most important crisis that we have, said Erap, is truth crisis. Well, that's not too bad from a person who himself bears a lot of crises, morality on top of them.

During his recent birthday bash, Erap has still the temerity and the gall to proclaim, in the wake of prodding him to seek the Presidency again in 2010, that he will just cross the bridge when he reaches there. Problem is, the bridge is still under construction. A typical Eraption.

With all due respect, we dare City Mayor Dan Lim to make true his pronouncements over his radio program yesterday morning to challenge the existence of the joint venture agreement between Salcon and the Provincial Government of Bohol amid the move of Bohol Light Company to pass on the burden to its power consumers the franchise tax it has paid to the city government.

The city mayor also disclosed that the city will be applying for a franchise from Congress to give Bohol Light Company a run for its money.

This is a welcome development because the so-called "buy-back" move has become "buy-backakon", to borrow the terminology of former OIC Gov. Victor de la Serna.
