Jail 3-day standoff ends;
warden's ouster sought

 

Tension gripped the crowded Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) when most of its 301 inmates staged a riot Monday morning destroying 25 cells.

This aggravated the situation following last Sunday afternoon's hostage-taking by inmates of their visitors. Thorough and stringent inspection by BDRC officials on visiting relatives of inmates were seen as reasons for staging untoward reactions.

NEAR JAILBREAK. Had the parameter security not been tight, many of the 300 inmates at the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) could have bolted out last Sunday evening amid a power blackout. The inmates, demanding the ouster of Col. Raul Mendez, OIC provincial warden, easily broke the steel partitions of the almost 30 cells due to poor foundation. MANILA. The government should impose a P80 pay hike for workers in Metro Manila as prices of fuel, rice and other basic goods continue to rise, a labor group said yesterday.

WANTED: OLD FASHION PATRIOTISM

Words we say in our Panatang Makabayan since our elementary school days but it seems the fervor is gone. Filipinos no longer place their hands across their hearts when we sing "Ang mamatay ng dahil sa 'yo" of our Philippine National Anthem.

WELCOME. The province received last night some 200 foreign dignitaries in a cocktail and dinner reception at the Bohol Tropics Resort Club, this city. Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado (at podium) tackles "The Role of HRD in Sustainable Development from Whale Shark and Dolphin Predators to Protectors" in a 20-minute presentation.
