A waste management crisis is impending as the city's open garbage dump in barangay Dampas is feared of being closed down.

This, as some 94-percent of the host barangay's residents have called for the closure of the open dumpsite through a signature campaign that was launched during a barangay assembly last March 29.

Gov't hikes farmers' seed subsidy

MANILA. The Department of Agriculture has increased its seed subsidy to rice farmers to cushion the impact of the rising cost of seeds and to further increase rice production for the year.

Ginintuang Masaganang Ani program director Frisco Malabanan said that from a 50-50 sharing seed subsidy program, the DA would now provide farmers with as much as P1,500 in subsidy per 40-kilogram bag of hybrid seeds, P760 per bag of certified seeds, and P440 per bag of good quality seeds.

Jedara R. Docena qualified for the ASEAN Open Chess championships this coming June 2008 in Vietnam by besting all contenders during the Philippine Open Age Group Championships (Girls 16 and under) held in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila last April 5-8.

She also joined the Philippine Open Junior Chess Championship (Girls 20 and under) last April 11-14 and she also bested all of the participants.

BDRC stabilized after riot;
Contractor may face suit

Situation has been stabilized at the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) on Tuesday following a three-day standoff among 301 inmates and prison guards.

Meanwhile, Gov. Erico Aumentado is slated to have a dialogue with jail inmates' representatives this morning after a Holy Mass at the BDRC. He said that while he believes in the administration of Jail Warden Raul Mendez, he will listen to the inmates' grievances.

Bohol celebrates Earth Day on Tues


The province will join the worldwide Earth Day celebration on April 22, 2008. This annual event is an opportunity for Earth's denizens to rekindle their commitment to care for the planet and make it a safer, healthier and cleaner world to live in.

The observance of Earth Day every April 22 of the year marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970 which the late U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson spearheaded. Earth Day is touted as the only event celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities.
