P13M farmers' help approved

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) yesterday did not waste time in approving the release of P13,786,000 financial assistance for rice farmers in the province.

This after Gov. Erico Aumentado made an urgent request for the lawmakers to fund the provincial government's Rice Accelerated Enhancement Response (RACER) and the Bohol Seeds Assistance Project (BSAP) for rice growers.

TOURISM IN FOCUS. Gov. Erico Aumentado was the main guest during the "888 News Forum" held at the Bohol Tropics yesterday with 18 visiting journalists from Cebu and Manila. The forum discussed the various aspects of Bohol tourism, including the admission that the province lacks 2,000 rooms. Other guests are DOT Regional Director Dawnie Roa, Prov'l Tourism Chairman Peter Dejaresco and Chamber president Norris Oculam. RICE CRISIS: PREDICTIVE AND RESPONSE FAILURES

 

We are adherents to that school of thought that: food (rice), medicines (health insurance and cheap ones) and shelter should be every government's primary lookout in welfare economics.

Unfortunately, it seems many administrations (especially this one of GMA) looked the other way - and misprioritized its mandate for government. Moreover, it had failed in its predictive calculus to find that the rice shortage could happen.

Esperon vows impartiality
in mistah's extortion case

MANILA. Outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. on Monday said his ties with Maj. Gen. Jose Barbieto, a general linked to extortion, will not matter in making a decision on a recommendation for the latter's court martial.

Probers have recommended the court martial trial of Barbieto and SSgt. Roseller Echipare for violation for Articles of War (AW) 55 (making unlawful enlistment) and AW 97 (conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline).

Cited as a geological monument, the near perfect cone shaped hills landed in the top 10 of the search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature but was de-listed from the nominees since Monday.
