Bohol formalizes
bid on Choco Hills

The provincial government officially confirms the nomination for the Chocolate Hills to be included in the list of nominees in the global search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7W).

Gov. Erico B. Aumentado filed the formal nomination to the New 7 Wonders of Nature, a non-government organization that launched the search to determine sites which would qualify to vie for the world's top 7 wonders of nature.

to receive P5B

MANILA. With rice prices soaring globally, more subsidies for poor Filipino families in the 20 poorest provinces nationwide are under way, Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral said yesterday.

Cabral said that apart from the subsidized rice being sold to target beneficiaries by the National Food Authority (NFA), the national government has allocated P5 billion this year to fund a P500 monthly welfare subsidy for each of the country's poorest families.

Bohol's best tomorrow


It's ready to rumble for the much-awaited matchup between the ex-PBA players led by the towering Bonel Balingit and Bohol's best at the HNU main campus gym along Lessage street, this city tomorrow night. Game time is 7 p.m.

The pre-fiesta offering will feature other former PBA standouts against the Bohol All-Stars right after the explosive preliminary game featuring the HNU Falcons and UB Flying Lemures.

City Agora work to resume this week

The much delayed work at the unfinished Agora Market, which will be converted into the Tagbilaran Business Center (TBC) will resume this week, right after the City Fiesta.

This was assured by City Mayor Dan Lim yesterday whose critics started to question on when this major "eye sore" right in the heart of the city's commercial district will be finally transformed into a business center.

Island City Mall

As the city girds for the annual feast day on Thursday, May 1, the revelry reaches fever pitch with fiesta events happening at the Activity Center of Island City Mall.

On fiesta eve, April 30, a sexy female band from Manila, Aegies Pink Lilac, will take centerstage at the Activity Center at 4 PM, while Sparkles, the biggest provider in Visayas and Mindanao for balloons, kiddie parties and special effects, will hold a live party show with kiddie mascots, on feast day, May 1, starting at 1 PM at the Activity Center.

They were made of both good news and bad news. First the good news.

After 62 long years of waiting - 12,000 living World War II Filipino war veterans - got the recognition for fighting America's war in the Pacific. The Senate Bill 1315 sponsored by Democratic senator Daniel Inouye called "Veterans Enhancement Act of 2007" was approved by an astonishing 96-1 vote which will soon give a monthly compensation to Filipino war veterans equal to the those accorded to the so-called G.I.s of WWII.
