CEBU CITY. Boholano boxing star Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista proved he still belongs to the elite group after he annihilated Mexican warrior Eden "Anestecista" Marquez in the second round of a scheduled 12-rounder last night at the Waterfront Hotel to retain the WBO Intercontinental superbantam title.

The 22-year old boxer from Candijay town emerged victorious in last night's bout which is now his passport to a possible slot in a major event in the United States later this year.

4 Marines killed, 10
injured in ambush

Four soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded in an early morning ambush by suspected Muslim extremists in the southern island province of Sulu yesterday, officials said.

At 6:45 a.m., a convoy from the 11th Marine Battalion Landing Team was in the vicinity of Bonbon village in Patikul town when they were attacked by the gunmen, believed to be members of the al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf group, Philippine Marine Corps commandant Major General Ben Dolorfino said.
