BWS
nips BAI; retains hoop crown Powerhouse
Bohol Wisdom School Mini Dragons nipped the Bai Cristobal Basketball Camp, 64-40
in the finals to win the mini basketball crown of the 14th Bohol Schools Amateur
Athletic Association (BSAAA) 4th Graham C Lim Basketball Challenge Saturday at
the BWS hard-court.
RG
Israel, the grandson of former city vice Mayor Rizaino "Eddie" Sarmiento
Israel, displayed high intensity basketball to give his team the bacon. Nobody
was there to stop the red-hot Israel as he played with much confidence defying
all guards assigned to him all game long.
He
got able support from his teammates, the wily point guard Christian Caro, the
vastly improved Christian Buslon, and tiny Neil Calipes.
The
brilliant performance by Israel merited him the much coveted individual awards
for the mini basketball division, Rookie of the Year award.
It
was the deeper bench of the mini Dragons which spelled the difference. There was
no one from among my players who could match their firepower as our pillar of
strength Christian Galido was absent for reasons known only to him, thus said
coach Edward Caracut of the Bai Cristobal Basketball Camp.

City Science High School Virus was ahead, 36-28 at lemon time as tall boy Henry
Tagaytay controlled the boards while his teammates Paul Ybañez, Eric Pacional,
Regil Manug kept their offensive thrust going like a well oiled machine. But San
Isidro High School Monkeys through Herbert Bautista, Willy Cuevas, Carlito Bansag,
and skipper Bata Halagao put up a gallant rally employing a trapping defense and
a run and gun game to the dismay of the Virus in the third canto to tie the count
at 44 all.
There
was no stopping the monkeys as "tower of power" Bautista, 'sniper"
Cuevas, the versatile Ampong continued to jell even as Tagaytay, Ybañez,
Max Añora collaborated to match up the firepower of the Monkeys. There
was a seesaw battle that ensued but only in the last few minutes of the game. |
The Monkeys
prevailed over the Virus, 67-57.
They
victory fortified their bid to catch the last bus to the semi finals of the high
school competition.
The
win gave the Bohol Wisdom School Mini Dragons dominance in the mini basketball
competition in the city as they have retained titles of two prestigious crowns
this year, the Tagbilaran City Private Elementary and Secondary Schools Association
(TCPrESSA) and the BSAAA.
For
his part, Rodolfo Bas Madanguit, the sports coordinator of the Bohol Wisdom School
said "We worked hard for it. The boys deserve the victory."
