PDIC takes over PRBank

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) took over the management of Pilipino Rural Bank (PRBank) starting Friday while an investigation was launched into possible violations of banking laws that may have been committed by the troubled bank.

PRBank has been placed under receivership of the PDIC four days after it declared a bank holiday last Monday that caught hundreds of its depositors by surprise. FULL STORY

"THE CITY MAYOR'S SWEETHEART DEAL"

 

A "Sweetheart Deal" is an abnormally favorable deal, frequently involving Government with hints at the presence of corruption. The Internet free encyclopedias say so.

It is called a deal for one's sweetheart because the terms are so attractive -reserved in fact only for one's lover. Except that in all cases, the deal is not in the best interest of the stakeholders - in this case the city of Tagbilaran and its residents.

Veloso-Glovasa clash on P6.5M cash advances

All items in the P6.5 million unliquidated cash advances of city officials and employees should be exposed to the public, vows City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso.

The vice mayor's statement came after a privilege speech by city Kag.Oscar Glovasa during the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session last Friday which took aim at Veloso and Kag. Zenaido Rama for singling out the matter of cash advances from the 17 issues raised by the COA in the 2007 audit report of the city government. FULL STORY

Fr. Uy as next chair

A true-blooded Boholano has been endorsed as the next Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) chairman, one of the top sports organizations in the country.

A couple of days ago, no less than PSC chairman William "Butcha" Ramirez wants newly-appointed commissioner Fr. Vicente "Vic" Uy, SVD as his successor, according to reports from TF-Cebu City. Ramirez has already tendered his resignation but had been advised to stay his put. FULL STORY
