DENR urged:
STOP ISSUING TARSIER PERMITS

 

The provincial government moves closer towards banning the display of tarsiers for commercial use outside the primates' natural habitat.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) yesterday approved by unanimous vote Resolution No. 002-2008 urging the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through Sec. Jose Atienza to stop the issuance of wildlife farm permits that allows possession and display of tarsiers for business purposes. FULL STORY

 
SAVE THE TARSIERS. Hotelier Anos Fonacier, "father of Bohol tourism" took the cudgels in calling the attention of the provincial lawmakers to take drastic action in aid of legislation regarding the unabated issuance of permits by DENR for display of tarsiers. Fonacier, the man behind the Phil. Tarsier Foundation, Inc. appeared during yesterday's session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan presided over by Vice Gov. Julius Herrera.

WILL MUMBAI MASSACRE HAPPEN IN PHILIPPINES?

 

Mumbai, a fabled city of 18 million in ancient India last week was hit by a Pakistan-based terrorist militant group Lashkar-e-taiba. Close to 200 people are dead and over 300 wounded.

FVR tells Arroyo to
stop Charter change


MANILA. Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos called on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday to stop any moves to amend the constitution amid growing disquiet in the country over attempts by her allies to extend her term.

"It's too late now, at this time, to be talking about charter change," Ramos, a retired general who led the 1986 peaceful coup against late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and who has supported Arroyo in past attempts to unseat her, told reporters before leaving for Guam. FULL STORY
