Starting
today and for every Wednesday thereafter, we shall transfer
the portion on the updates from the city council after its
regular session has been transferred from Wednesdays to Mondays.
As
we have pointed out in earlier issues, if the SP update comes
out on Sunday issues in this corner, it would be more of history
already rather than an update.
Be
that as it may, the Inbox and Advisory portions of this corner
will continue to be on Sunday issues.

During
the regular session of the 10th Sangguniang Panlungsod last
Monday headed by Vice Mayor Jose Antonio S. Veloso, the city
lawmakers did not tackle major issues although preliminary
discussions were made on matters up for deliberation for the
next regular session.
Among
the two major issues up for consideration by the city council
include the requirements of the Development Bank of the Philippines
(DBP) for the P4 million loan of the city in its re-fleeting
program of acquiring new service vehicles. This was referred
to the committee on appropriations and accounts chaired by
City Councilor Oscar B. Glovasa.
The
other major concern referred to the city sanggunian is the
franchise granted to the cockpit owned by businessman Segundo
Lim, father of City Mayor Dan Lim. This matter was referred
to the committee on public utilities chaired by City Councilor
Nerio Zamora II.

Just
before adjournment, City Concilor Djingo Rama delivered a
privilege speech pertaining to the operation of the Botika
sa Katawhan managed by Deputy Mayor Mario Uy and connecting
the same to the trade fair at the city port.
Rama
concluded his privilege speech with a motion for the city
council to conduct an investigation in aid of legislation
on the operation of the Botika sa Katawhan and Uy's alleged
collection of stall rentals at the city wharf .
Rama
was tasked by his colleagues to prepare the draft resolution
along that score.
