PLDT back; Opens
line for call centers

The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) will expand and improve its facility in Bohol, in tandem with SMART, to provide connectivity of the province with the global information highways.

This was bared by Ernesto Alberto, senior vice president and head of PLDT's Corporate Business Group (CBG), during his meeting with Gov. Erico B. Aumentado at the Capitol, this city.

Alberto conferred with the governor upon instruction of PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and SMART President Napoleon Nazareno who responded positively to Aumentado's strong representation for PLDT and SMART to open up gateways in Bohol for the burgeoning call center industry.

The governor wrote a letter to Chairman Pangilinan and conferred personally with Nazareno in Manila last week on PLDT's and SMART's connectivity projects for call centers.

Alberto also announced that PLDT will be taking over the Tagbilaran facility after its case with the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) was settled amicably which paved the way for its expansion and improvement project.

He said that it is the intention of PLDT to provide connectivity for a minimum of 600 seats call center as starter in the province.

To show the interest of PLDT on the project, the PLDT senior vice president brought with him Maulik Parekh and Francis Consunji Gotianun, vice president and general manager for Asia and project manager, respectively, of Teletech.

The Teletech officials also confirmed their interest to set up a 600-seat call center in Bohol once the PLDT connectivity facility will be in place.

The Teletech representatives also met with officials of the various universities and colleges in Bohol a day after their conference with the governor to discuss the manpower requirements and the companies' training centers for the educational institution to access and enhance their IT courses.

Gov. Aumentado was assisted by Norris Oculam, Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) president, and Marlito Uy of the Alturas Group of Companies during the meeting with Alberto and Parekh.

Alberto was also assisted by Nerissa Ramos, first vice president of the CBG, Renato Castañeda, business head of the CBG-Public Sector, Javier Lagdameo, CBG assistant vice president and business head; Dan Ibarra, head of the Retail Usage and VAS Management of the Retail Business Group and Katrine Luna-Abelarde, Corporate Relationship Management head, all of PLDT and Ma. Hiyasmin Quiñal, senior manager of SMART's Network Services Division for Visayas and Mindanao.
