RP seeks more seats to Olympics

With less than six months to go before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Philippines so far has eight qualifiers to the Games.

The country has representatives in four events-swimming, archery, taekwondo and boxing.

According to Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez, the number of qualifiers may still rise since athletes from track and field, judo and lawn tennis are still seeking berths in their respective qualifying tournaments.

A total of four RP Team members qualified in swimming led by 2007 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Male Athlete of the Year Miguel Molina, JB Walsh, Daniel Coakley and Ryan Arabejo.

Former Olympian Mary Antoinete Rivero and Tshomlee Go will be the country's bets in taekwondo while Mark Javier will compete in archery.

Harry Tañamor is the lone qualifier in boxing.
