Thirty-five passengers and crew of OceanJet-3, a fast sea craft plying the Tagbilaran-Cebu route, were injured when said vessel smashed into LCT Valerie barge while approaching the Tagbilaran City Port past 8 o'clock last night.

Capt. Domingo Hoylar of OceanJet told the Chronicle last night he did not immediately notice the barge moving on the same direction of his vessel since there were no lights at said barge.

"Pagkakita nako sa barge, wa na maapas ug likay kay do-ul na kaayo" (seeing the barge at that proximity, quick maneuver was already impossible), the ship captain narrated when interviewed by anchorman Jerry Pabe of the top-rated "Tagbilaran-By-Nite" over dyRD last night.

However, the Philippine Coast Guard will conduct its investigation amid reports that the barge was stationary at the time of the incident.

The impact dislodged mostly the passenger seats, either tossing or penning passengers in a matter of seconds, narrated Abiel Guarte, a passenger from Loay town.

Seriously injured were businessman Cecile Yap, 42, owner of YY Home Builders and Camille May Huan, grandchild of the owners of Shoppers Mart together with her father Eduardo Huan. Doctors at the Ramiro Hospital said Yap underwent leg surgery last night.

Twenty-seven passengers were rushed to the nearest Ramiro Hospital while three other passengers to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Regional Hospital.

Michael Baquina, the vessel's oiler was rushed to Borja Family Hospital.

The vessel departed Cebu at 6:40 p.m. and was expected to dock at the Tagbilaran port 8:25 last night.

Capt. Enrique Degamo of the Bohol Harbor Pilot during an interview over dyRD last night warned fast crafts from shortcutting the channel just to minimize travel and beat the estimated time of arrival at the Tagbilaran Port. He advised vessels to slowdown upon approaching the port in order to avoid accidents.

The Philippine Coast Guard will commence its investigation of last night's incident tomorrow.
