Peñalosa's mandatory WBO bantamweight title defense
against Thai challenger Ratanachai Sor Vorapin on March 2
at the Araneta Coliseum has been called off, but the famed
ALA Boxing Gym moved swiftly to keep its two topguns being
originally slated in the undercard in the active list.
Eightnews.com
has reported that the Penalosa-Vorapin won't push through
due to various reasons, including the huge budget intended
reasons, including the huge budget intended for the title
tiff.
However,
ALA Gym chief Michael Aldeguer has confirmed that a contract
has been signed between reigning WBO Asia Pacific Youth super
flyweight title-holder AJ "Bazooka" Banal and the
current WBA Fedelatin super flyweight kingpin Caril "El
Raton" Herrera for a still undisclosed title.

The
other Boholano world prospect Rey "Boom Boom"
Bautista has been set to make his second comeback fight
here against a still unknown foe, venue and date.
Herrera
(21-0-0, 13KOs) has dominated the regional WBC and WBA
super flyweight titles since Feb. 23, 2006 when he defeated
Sergio Victor Caruso in a 6-round knockout. He has successfully
defended the WBC title four times since then, three
of which by stoppage. His supremacy in the WBA Fedelatin
kingdom has not been challenged to-date. This 19-yr
old warrior from Uruguay is also currently WBC No. 2,
WBA No. 8, and IBF No. 12.

Banal
(16-0-1, KO13) is current ruler of the WBO Asia Pacific youth
super flyweight division. HE snatched the crown Mexican Jovanny
Soto December last year through a technical KO in the 9th
round. Unlike Herrera who had been in the game for more than
four years, Banal has only two years beyond his debut on June
2005.
This
card which has the indication of another WBC world eliminator
bout promised a devastating encounter between two demolishers
stunning each other in the ring with the powerful tools of
their trade. (Manny B)
