Election
of the only legitimate officers of the National Chess
Federation of the Philippines will be held on Jan. 19
in Tagaytay City.
NCFP
president Prospero "Butch" Pichay made this
clarification yesterday in the wake of reports that
a splinter group headed by former secretary-general
lawyer Sammy Estimo has called for a different election
on Feb. 2 in Quezon City.
|
"Let
it be known that the NCFP election will be held as scheduled
on Jan. 19 at the Tagaytay Convention Center," said Pichay.
"As far as I am concerned, there is no other NCFP election
but the one approved by the NCFP board during our meeting
at the Duty Free Fiesta Mall in Parañaque last month.

"Everything
is in order in the NCFP. We have a full lineup of local
and international tournaments," added Pichay. "We
are also sending more players to various international
competitions to further hone their skills."
Three
other NCFP directors-Go Teng Kok, Dr. Jenny Mayor and
Willie Abalos supported Pichay's statement.
Go,
also a former president of the chess association, acknowledged
the achievements of both Pichay and NCFP secretary-general
and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino
since taking over the reins of the chess body.
"I
have no problem with the NCFP leadership (Pichay and
Tolentino). I think they're doing fine," said Go
in an interview.
|
Mayor
also reiterated his support to Pichay and Tolentino, adding
he was present when the NCFP board set the election for Jan.
19 in Tagaytay City.
"As
NCFP director, I will attend the election on Jan. 19, and
not on Feb. 2," said Mayor.
Incidentally,
Go and Mayor were included in the supposed list of eight directors
seeking to hold the election on Feb. 2, and not on Jan. 19.
