BIEN UNIDO. The contingent of this young municipality is well-prepared to compete in the Sinulog contest in Cebu City today.

Mayor Niño Rey Boniel, this town, said that foremost in their participation is to promote Bien Unido as the seaweeds capital in the Visayas and the seaweeds basket in the province, as well.

He added that this town which celebrated its 26th Foundation Day anniversary last Dec. 15, is also listed as the 4th highest in seaweeds production in the country. The top three producers came from provinces in Mindanao, Boniel said.

Boniel further stated that his 3-year term as local chief executive is divided into three stages of services. That on the first year, he will concentrate in the promotion of Bien Unido as a young progressive municipality, the second year will focus on infrastructure projects then the remaining term will be on livelihood programs.

Boniel said that in this initial showcasing of their product through this prestigious mardi gras, he hope some investors will be enticed to pour their capital to further develop the industry. Hence, redound to the development of their town and sustain the livelihood of his constituents. Bien UNido will be in the website, too, Boniel added.

Meanwhile, the more than 100 members of the contingent are selected students in the three secondary schools here. Preparations and practices started since October of last year, Boniel concluded. (Wenny Reyes)
