No
extension of permit renewal here
City
Mayor Dan Neri Lim made clear city hall's position that there
will be no extension of renewal of permits for businesses
operating in the city, even as he urged them to renew earlier
and pay their taxes.
Lim,
in his weekly Mayor's Report over DyRD yesterday, issued the
statement as a response to the requests of the business sector
to extend the deadline until next month.

He
said that the renewals will be entertained until January
20, 2008 only.
Meanwhile,
the mayor has explained the justification of the increase
of real property taxes that caught the ire of his critics.
"I take full responsibility of the increase of
the real property tax," he said.
He
explained that the hike of said taxes should have been
implemented years back.
The
mayor took the cudgels in responding to the allegation
of tax hike hurled against his administration.

He
said that the proceeds from the share of taxes equivalent
to 1.1% will form part of the Special Education Fund (SEF).
SEF,
he pointed out, is the source of the school supplies and other
school needs of the public elementary schools in the city.
He
added that the city plans to erect a three-storey building
right at the City Central Elementary School to decongest the
classrooms, saying this is one way of showing to the people
that the city wanted not to be mendicant anymore.
Lim,
during his first term and until now, is instrumental in providing
for free school supplies, uniforms and others to all public
elementary schools here. (RVO)
