Bautista vs Viloria
in unification bout

In a bid to get himself back in groove and another shot at the world title, come-backing Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista will cross mitts with veteran Fider Viloria in what is considered as a unification title bout on March 27 in Dubai, Saudi Arabia.

Following his convincing 12-round unanimous decision over Mexican toughie Antonio "Barrio" Meza last December 2 at the well-attended fight at the Araneta Coliseum to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Intercontinental super-bantamweight crown, the 22-year-old adopted son of Tagbilaran is all set to win his second comeback fight against the equally-title hungry Viloria, (not related with ex-world champion and Fil-Am Brian Viloria.

Viloria currently holds the World Boxing Council (WBC) Intercontinental superbantam crown, according to the Candijay, Bohol-native in an exclusive interview with this writer. In fact, "Boom Boom" is set to sail back to Cebu tomorrow after a call from his chief benefactor Antonio Lopez Aldequer.

To keep himself fit, Bautista (24-1-17 KOs) has been doing regular roadworks and training at the ALA Gym (Taloto).

"So far I have no problem with my weight and ready for his next fight in a bid to redeem himself following his heartbreaking first round knockout at the hands of power-hitting WBO super bantamweight titlist Daniel Ponce de Leon," Bautista said.

In his parting words, the former amateur champion once again thanked his chief benefactors-Sir ALA, Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, including Deputy Mayor Mario Uy, businessman Marlito Uy of the Alturas Group of Companies, countless fans and to all who in one way support the promotion of amateur and professional boxing in Bohol.

"I hope that with the blessings of the Almighty the New Year will be a booming and banner year for me and other members of the ALA Stable to give the Philippines another world boxing title." ALA Stable has far produced a lone world crown-holder in the person of Donnie "Ahas" Nietes who captured the WBO Jr. fly title last year. (Manny B.)
