Two
Boholano boxing prospects training at the famed ALA Boxing
Gym scored contrasting victories in separate non-title bouts
last Dec. 29 in Bantayan Island.
WBO
Asia-Pacific junior flyweight kingpin Along Denoy first scored
the most impressive win.
The
Candijay-born Denoy needed only 1:12 of the sixth round to
stop veteran campaigner Nelson Llanos in the mainer. Denoy,
who is apparently feared by Thai fighters, was originally
set to defend his crown against Neth Sasiprapa and his next
title defense in a rematch against ex-champ Kaitchon Sor Vorapin.
The two Thai warriors, however, opted not to face the power-punching
Boholano owing to his easy handling of Vorapin when he dethroned
the latter for the WBO tiara.

With
the impressive win the highly-improved "Denoy is
now free to stake his belt against anyone," WBO
Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, noting that the
Thai fighters seem to have developed fear of the Boholano
bulldog.
In
the other featured bout, upcoming Glenn Masicampo decisioned
provincemate and ex-champ Melvin Ayudtud.
The
other Boholano upstart Rufino Mante of Ubay, however,
failed in his bid to win the championship of the 1st
ABS-CBN Boxing Idol search after he was outpointed by
Alejandro Belonguel in the finals of the recent boxing
event at the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu. (many b.)
