Guv blocks new
LTO assignment

Gov. Erico Aumentado blocked the assignment here of a ranking regional official of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) based in Cebu to replace newly designated Joel Maloloy-on as registrar of the Tagbilaran licensing office.

The stand of the governor came as reports bared that Jose Ruperto Remullo, the current LTO regional operations division chief, will be assuming this week as the new city LTO registrar.

2 die, 2 missing, pumpboat sinks

PRES. GARCIA. Two persons met their untimely death while two others are still missing when the motorboat they were boarding sunk some 20-30 meters into docking off the shoreline of island barangay Tugas this town Wednesday night.

The fatalities are identified as Arsenia Jugarap Ocon, 56 and Maria Jugarap Guimbarda, 60, all married. Missing are spouses Luciano Aclan, 58 and Delia Aclan, 55, all residents of said barangay.

Manny Pacquiao might soon end up wearing three belts. The Ring Magazine, the Bible of Boxing, has announced that it is staking its super-featherweight title during Pacquiao's March 15 rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.

The fight dubbed "Unfinished Business" is a continuation of the Pacquiao-Marquez rivalry that began in May 8, 2004 and ended with a very controversial draw at the MGM Grand.

Palace junks pork

MANILA. Mincing no words, Malacañang yesterday branded the proposed P13.5 billion additional "pork barrel" of the House of Representatives as "unconstitutional" which, if allowed, would imperil the Arroyo administration's goal of a balanced budget this year.

Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. said that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo could use her veto power if the House panel failed to stick to the budget proposal she had submitted to Congress, which amounted to P1.227 trillion.
