97 killed in road mishaps 3 dead in last nite's accident

A high figure of 97 persons were killed last year in various road accidents which alarm traffic authorities, not just in this growing city but in the municipalities as well.

Meanwhile, the latest road smash-up last night claimed the lives of three motorists while two were injured after five vehicles collided along the national highway in barangay Dao, this city.

WANTED: CONSUMERS WELFARE GROUP

 

The exorbitant prices of fish in a water-bound island like Bohol is an obscene reality. It is a consummation devoutly to be condemned.

But condemnation - without a solution - seemed to be the best the concerned Government agencies tasked to look into the matter ended up last Tuesday. The burden of having to bear the cost of high prices of fish remain foisted on many suffering Boholanos.

Chocolate Festival is eyed for promotions

The first Chocolate Festival in the country is proposed to be held at the world famous Chocolate Hills during the fiesta month of May this year.

This is a major tourism event which will highlight Bohol in this year's of events as far as promotions are concerned, according to Peter Dejaresco, chairman of the Provincial Tourism Council during meeting with Carmen Mayor Boy Molina last Tuesday.

Fil. nurses in demand


Filipino registered nurses are in demand in at least three countries, Federico Acdal, president of Greenfields International Manpower Services Inc., disclosed this week.

In an interview with the Bohol Chronicle, Acdal said that because of the shortage of nurses in countries like the United States, Canada and New Zealand, Greenfields is conducting a two-day job fair in the provincial capitol on February 6 and 7 in Tagbilaran City.

This is in coordination with the efforts of the provincial government of Bohol to generate more jobs for Boholanos.

Donaire back in training
soon for April 4 big fight


With still a little more than two months to go before his next title defense, IBF and IBO flyweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. is raring to go back in training at the world-class ALA Gym in Cebu shortly.

Nicknamed "Filipino Flash," Donaire breezed into town over the weekend from Manila amid a warm welcome from his legion of fans here. After a motorcade from the city airport, the dual champion dropped by his favorite radio station dyRD/ZD and thanked his fans for their support. He was accompanied by his mother Imelda and fiancée Rachel Marcial, a Filipino-American Taekwondo titlist. His father-trainer Nonito, Sr. could not make the trip as he was still in Manila.

Arroyo extends Esperon's term

SWITZERLAND. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has extended for three months Military Chief General Hermogenes Esperon Jr.'s term of service, saying she wanted to sustain the military's momentum against communist rebels.

At the same time, the President announced that the commanding general of the Philippine Army, Lieutenant General Alexander Yano, would replace Esperon at the end of his extended term on May 9.
