'Enforce illegal tops ban'

"The city chief executive should enforce an existing ordinance prohibiting the discharge of household and commercial wastes into the city's drainage system and penalize violators."

This was the call made by City Councilor Zenaido Rama during a privilege speech at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session last Monday.

A former close ally to City Mayor Dan Lim, Rama urged the mayor to create a task force who will inspect and disconnect identified drainage taps coming from some 30 residences and business establishments from VP Inting Street to CPG Avenue (North).

PGMA okays 1 percent
cut on oil import tariff

MANILA. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo approved yesterday a one-percent reduction in tariff rates for imported crude oil to cushion the impact of soaring oil prices in the world market.

The Chief Executive made the announcement during a surprise press conference she called yesterday afternoon at the Kalayaan Briefing Room in Malacanang immediately after she convened her economic managers at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-Cabinet Group meeting.

She said the mechanics of the tariff rates discount would be stipulated in an Executive Order that she had already signed and scheduled to be released today.
