BPHS nursing grads
keep spirit moving

The pioneering Bohol Provincial Hospital School of Nursing of the 60s to the 80s (1962-1985) may be history by now, but its spirit is still made alive by its alumni, faculty and staff now scattered all over the world.

As scores of nurses, along with families and friends, from various states in America, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, even the Philippines, troop to Las Vegas, Nevada for their 8th International Grand Reunion this coming June 29-30, the Bohol-based BPHSN Lives On Foundation, Inc. marks its fourth anniversary as a charitable corporation.

School and class reunions in varied places at home and abroad have been held since decades ago to reminisce the old student days of formation and training. As former students mature in social awareness, the fun and frolic of get-together, gradually yield fruits that reach the needy and the less fortunate - the nostalgic picture of patients the nurses left behind for greener pastures.

The grand reunion in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, will be held exclusively for two days at the Planet Hollywood, a star-studded hotel casino which is owned by celebrities. The days before and after will be spent for class parties and tours as scheduled by their respective hosts.

In 1985 when the School of Nursing finally folded-up, a homecoming took place at the erstwhile Bohol Provincial Hospital. Then grand reunions followed every three years - in Los Angeles (California), Jersey City (NJ) and Manhattan (NY), Tagbilaran City (Bohol), Vancouver (Canada), Chicago (Illinois), Orlando (Florida), Houston (Texas), and now, two years after, in Las Vegas (Nevada). This years' reunion will be hosted by the BPHSN Alumni of the same city, headed by Fe Hora-San Juan, Maridy Ranario-Sicat, Carmen Campos-Bieber and Mrs. Concordia P. Vestal.

Meanwhile, the BPHSN Lives On Foundation, Inc. acts as a service outlet for the alumni and a conduit for funds and material donations from various school and class reunions meant to support the mother-institution, the former BPH, which is now the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital, and other health-projects in the community.

The new Board of Trustees of the Foundation were recently in inducted during a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Victor Bompat at the hospital chapel .They are: Beatriz D. Balatero, chairperson; Arsenia Bag-ao-Bonite, president; Elizabeth Amodia-Floresca, vice-president for internal affairs; Casilda Castillo-Lapez, vice-president for external affairs; Flor Annabelle Butron-Cesar, corporate secretary; Helen Gementiza-Camacho, treasurer; Lyn Clara Darunday-Uy, asst. treasurer; Nepa Apalisok-Hontucan, auditor; Aniceta Dumas-Bongcas, Laura Evasco-Manuta, Ninfa Caingod-Dumas, Felicitas Uy-Lim; members of the board.

The Foundation will be preparing to host a BPHSN reunion during the next Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan (TBTK) which will take place on July 17-26, 2009 here in Bohol.
