Arrest warrant
for city kagawad

By KIT BAGAIPO

A warrant for the arrest of City Kag. Edgar Kapirig was issued Tuesday by the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) in connection with charges of serious slander filed against him by businessman Mariano Uy.

Kapirig however voluntarily surrendered and paid P6,000 bailbond on Wednesday for his provisional liberty.

MTCC Presiding Judge Sisinio Virtudazo issued the warrant of arrest following the filing of charges against Kapirig by the City Prosecution Office of the crime of serious slander.

Uy accused Kapirig of maligning him for allegedly spreading lies regarding unaccounted donations for the Botika sa Katawhan.

The Botika, dispensing free medicines to city residents, was established by Uy with the help of doctors and benefactors in the United States.

Kapirig denied the allegations of Uy.

The city lawmaker, upon knowing that a warrant of arrest was issued against him, voluntarily posted bail.

Moreover, a motion filed by Kapirig to defer further proceedings of the case on the ground that he has filed a petition for review at the Regional State Prosecutor in Cebu City was denied by Judge Virtudazo.

Arraignment of the case will be set by the court.
