SP supports direct Davao-Tagb. Flight

In a bid to boost tourism industry by providing easy access to visitors particularly Boholanos, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved a Resolution supporting the move of Davao City asking the airplane companies to establish direct flights between this capital city and Davao City.

The SP found merit of Davao City's approved Resolution No. 0768-08, requesting Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Asian Spirit to explore the possibility of establishing direct flights between Dvao City and Tagbilaran City, Bohol, said Vice-Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera after the approval of SP measure.

Gov. Erico Aumentado, who was in receipt of the said Davao City Resolution, stressed the direct air travel "will definitely be to our mutual and equal advantage, as it will further promote tourism and investment in our places."

Davao City officials said that it's the city's policy to promote the City as a tourism, investment and trade destination, hence, it is needed that it has to have a direct transportation links with other cities and countries.

The Resolution recognizes that Davao and Bohol share the same thing because both are the country's prime tourist destinations, visited by both foreigners and locals alike.

"Davao City and its neighboring provinces are home to hundreds of thousands of residents tracing their roots to Bohol, who travel on a regular basis, particularly to attend town fiestas, family homecoming and to transact business."

The SP Resolution was adopted en masse during the regular session on June 10, 2008 presided over by Herrera, the Chronicle learned.

DAvao City Resolution was signed by Vice-Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, daughter of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and approved by 24 city councilors as certified by Zuleika T. Lopez, secretary to the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao City. (RVO)
