Light Flyweight
Harry Tañamor, the country's lone Olympic boxing bet, continues his buildup
for the 2008 Beijing Games as he spearheads a four-man squad to the Chemistry
Cup International tournament on June 18 to 22 in Halle, Germany.
Tañamor,
a silver medalist in last year's Aiba World Championships in Chicago, is hoping
to sustain his superb performance that saw him bag the light flyweight gold in
the Aiba President's Cup in Taipei over some Olympic-bound fighters recently.

The 30-year-old
veteran of the 2004 Athens Games overwhelmed Essomba Thomas of Cameroon, 17-4,
in the finals of the tournament, held in honor of Aiba president Dr. Wu Ching-kuo.
Tañamor
earlier outpointed Eduard Bermudez of Venezuela, 15-11, before edging Mongolian
Purevdori Sardamba, 6-4, for a place in the finals. Both Serdamba and Thomas are
also seeing action in Beijing from Aug. 8-28.
"The
Chemistry Cup is vital for Harry's preparations, especially after his win in Taipei,"
said Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines secretary general Roger Fortaleza
"It will gauge his progress for Beijing." | Joining
Tañamor are bantamweight Charly Suarez and Cuba-trained featherweight Orlando
Tacuyan Jr. and light welterweight Genebert Basadre. Cuban coach Juan Enrique
Steyners Tissert and Pat Gaspi are also part of the delegation. |
