The 1st Comelec Visayas Goodwill Games was held in Naga City, Cebu province last June 4-6.

On the opening day was the arrival of the different contingents of delegation from Western Visayas region 6, Eastern Visayas region 8, and Central Visayas region 7 the host region.

The 1st part of the day's activities was the parade and motorcade of all the players of the different regions headed by Comelec Honorable Commissioner Nicodemo T. Ferrer, Commissioner-In-Charge for Regions 6, 7, and 8 and party at the Naga City sports Complex followed by the invocation, Pambansang Awit and then the Words of Welcome by Hon. Valdemar M. Chiong, City Mayor of Naga City.

   

After the speech delivered by the City Mayor, an intermission number from the Four Aces of the Siquijor delegation then followed by the Oath of amateurism led by Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano, Provincial Election Supervisor of Cebu. An inspirational Message of Hon. Nicodemo T. Ferrer got encouragement of all the contingents after his announcement that by next year the Commission on Elections will make a budget for the next goodwill games to be held in Region 6 in Iloilo City. At this juncture, Commissioner Ferrer formally inaugurates the opening of the 1st Comelec Visayas Goodwill Games.

In the afternoon of June 6, was the awarding and closing ceremony. Atty. Ray Rene T. Buac, Regional Election Director of Region 7 rendered his closing remarks and presented a plaque of appreciation to Hon. Valdemar M. Chiong, City Mayor of Naga City.

The said gathering was well attended by Comelec Officials in central office Manila led by Boholana Director Atty. Esmeralda Amora-Ladra of Planning Dept.; Atty Jose M. Tolentino, Jr. Executive Director; Atty. Adolfo Ibanez, Director Personnel Dept.; Atty. Betty Pizaña of Election Contest and Adjudication Dept.; Atty. Teofisto Elnas of Election and Barangay Affairs Dept.

One of the highlight in the last day of the goodwill games was the Practical Shooting held in Talisay City which was participated in by the respective Comelec Officials from Manila, Regional Election Directors, Assistant Directors and Provincial Election Supervisors of region 6, 7 and 8 respectively.

The Bohol Volleyball team Men and Women headed by Atty. Eliseo R.Z.B. Labaria, PES Bohol and Boholano Assistant Regional Election Director in Region 7 Atty. Veronico G. Petalcorin, represented Central Visayas won the championship trophy. The players include Allan Michele Mijares team captain; Paul Bentulan; Christopher Peralta; Edwin Rara; Joseph Dennis Tenio; Diomedes Meridores; Atty. Ranulfo Valmoria; Atty. Ariel Selma and Atty. Ray Ralph Montuya; Ducelyn Anino-Borbano; Emma Joy Peligro; Virginia Silmaro; Lois Catayas; Annielyn Ingles; Fe Gatal and Shirly Roluma. Coach Roel Alquezalas. In the individual games, Siegfried Saniel won second in chess men; Atty. Ingemar Macarine, won Champion in Bowling; Juvenal Beniga won 3rd n Dart singles and also 3rd in Dart doubles in tandem with Joseph Dennis Tenio. Virginia Silmaro won 3rd in Women Badminton single; Joseph Dennis Tenio 2nd in Lawn Tennis single. Ma. Joy Peligro won 3rd Women Table Tennis single.

The Overall Champion was Eastern Visayas Region 8, 2nd place Central Visayas Region 7, and 3rd Place Western Region 6, respectively. (Juvy D. Beniga)
