VELOSO

City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso and six other young Filipino leaders represent the country to the International Exchange Program hosted by the Australian Political Exchange Council (APEC) and set in Australia's leading centers of Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide today until June 28.

The Bohol president of the Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines (VMLP) and presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran City forms part of the Philippine Council of Young Political Leaders (PCYPL) delegation to the dynamic interaction.

International exchanges are among the PCYPL programs aimed at exposing young Filipino leaders to and give them firsthand experiences in political and cultural dynamics of other countries.

Veloso is joined by young Gov. Miguel Rene Dominguez of Sarangani, Board Member Cecilia Claire Reyes, Isabela, Board Member Victoria Corominas, Cebu, Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi, Imus, Cavite, Councilor Azalea Hidalgo, Naguilan, La Union, and Zenen Renan Dalisay, chief of staff of Senate majority Leader Francisco Pangilinan.

The APEC-hosted exchange program serves another PCYPL vision of enabling young leaders to gain global perspective on issues and develop deeper friendly relations with other countries.

Over the years, APEC has been carrying out active and wide ranging political exchanges to enhance cooperation between Australia and other nations like the United States, Japan, Germany, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Korea and China.

The partnership with the Philippines was formalized in September 1995.

This year's International Exchange Program is PCYPL's third in Australia and Veloso's first participation after the PCYPL Foundation itself nominated the first-termer Tagbilaran City vice mayor.

Veloso is the only Philippine city official in the PCYPL delegation.

Australian Ambassador Rod Smith tendered a pre-departure lunch to Veloso and fellow PCYPL delegates at the Manila Peninsula.
