Airport talks sought by oppositors anew
By KIT BAGAIPO

DREAM STILL? Until the first meter of concreting of the runway can be seen, the P4.2 billion proposed Panglao Bohol International Airport remains to be a dream project of the Arroyo government. The blueprint states the work will commence by December this year.

Boholanos asking for transparency and thorough review of the Panglao Bohol International Airport project are once again seeking a dialogue with Gov. Erico Aumentado.

Dr. Ernesto Pernia of the UP School of Economics has again demanded for the governor to hold a dialogue with groups appealing for clarification of the airport project.

In a letter to the governor dated June 20, 2008, Pernia pointed out that Aumentado's rejoinder to questions raised on the airport project that was published by the Chronicle on June 15, 2008 needs to be amply discussed.

Pernia, who flew in from Manila last Thursday, reminded the governor of a promise to hold talks with his group on the first week of this month.

It may be recalled that Aumentado was invited to a conference with Pernia and some oppositors to the project last May 15 but did not push through due to "marathon meetings" on said date.

The governor left for the United States last June 14 and no meeting was scheduled with Pernia until now.

SENATE PROBE

Last Thursday, Pernia met with local oppositors led by Engr. Petronilo Sarigumba, businessman Albert Sanvictores, Msgr. Feliciano Nalzaro, Bayan secretary general John Ruiz III and Engr. Vicente Loquellano.

During the meeting, the group agreed to seek the help of Senators and members of Congress to look into the Panglao airport project.

Pernia likewise bared that there are Boholanos now based in the US, including priests, which have signified support to their demand for transparency on the project.

He said these groups will likely meet with Aumentado during his trip in the US.
