Media matriarch laid to final rest
DEJARESCO | | The
skies rained in abandon yesterday - as the old folks chorused they symbolized
great blessings and abundance.
It
was 4:15 in the afternoon as the mortal remains of the Matriarch of the media
outfit - the Bohol Chronicle Corporation, Rosario Pernia-Dejaresco - was laid
to rest at a prepared tomb beside her beloved departed husband Zoilo "Jun"
Dejaresco, founder and publisher-editor of the 54-year old newspaper - The Bohol
Chronicle at the Dampas Cemetery. |
As
the workers cemented the entrance of the tomb to seal the flower-laden grave,
the Dejaresco clan numbering 9 children and their spouses, 23 grandchildren and
8 great grandchildren let loose white balloons to the dark sky to let go of their
'earthly' anchor into the heavens.
The
incredible out-pouring of sympathy of relatives, friends and strangers, rich and
poor, young and old, religious and laymen all but spelt out the wide sphere of
influence that her generous, compassionate and joyful life had generated.

Several
Holy Masses were celebrated on the Dejaresco ancestral house along B. Inting Street
during the wake as many priests volunteered to say the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
In certain days as many as three masses were heard.
At
the necrological rites, which was concelebrated by 16 priests led by Bishop Leonardo
Medroso, Bishop Crispin Varquez and Msgr. Jeffry Malanog, eulogies were later
said by Fely Tabel of Catholic Women's League, Fely Lim of the Tagbilaran Lions
Club and Dr, Victoria Labado of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals. |
All nine
children were at Nang Charing's (as she is fondly remembered now) death bed -
and it was clear she had made peace with all of them and was just as spiritually
ready to await her meeting with the Great Creator with a Big Voice.
Meanwhile,
cash donations generated during the wake of Bohol media's matriarch totaled to
P127,286, US$300 and Sing$200. The amount will be turned over to the Inyong Alagad
Foundation intended for indigent patients.
