Mayor retracts eviction of acting city DepEd supt
By: KIT BAGAIPO

The notice of eviction for the Tagbilaran City Schools Division of the Department of Education (DepEd) to vacate their offices at the old city hall building has been recalled by City Mayor Dan Lim on Thursday.

The recall came after DepEd Regional Director Carolino Mordeno met with the mayor to settle issues raised on the appointment of teachers for the city's public elementary and high schools.

Last Monday, Lim issued the eviction notice to City Schools Superintendent Dr. Norma Varquez after criticizing the latter on complaints regarding the appointment of teachers.

Mordeno came upon invitation of Bohol Schools Division head Dr. Elpidio Jala.
According to the mayor, he withdrew his order after airing his concerns to Mordeno who "supported his position" on teachers appointments.

The mayor said he wanted proper coordination from Varquez and that he should be consulted in the selection of new teachers since the city government has its own programs on education. He added the appointment process should be fair and equal.

Lim said the DepEd should give priority to city paid teachers since many of them have been sacrificing with much lower salaries than nationally paid teachers.

"If the guidelines of the Civil Service Commission should be followed, hiring of new teachers must be published in newspapers," he stressed.

The mayor asked for a recall of recent appointments to give a chance for city paid teachers.

Admitting that there was a communication gap between him and Varquez, Lim said the consultation process between them must be properly structured to avoid future disagreements.
