The matriarch of
the Bohol Chronicle Radio Corp. was laid to final rest last Friday but the memories
of Rosario "Ma'am Charing" Pernia-Dejaresco will forever linger in the
hearts of those who worked for the pioneering twin-media establishment in Bohol.
If
the late Zoilo Dejaresco Jr. is considered as an institution himself, then Ma'am
Charing is an institution within an institution gauging from the requiem mass
last Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Cathedral.
In
our count, there were two bishops, 18 priests and two deacons at the altar to
concelebrate the Holy Eucharist. This only proves the depth of her spirituality
behind the civic-mindedness and an almost perfect motherhood during her lifetime.

Now
a few housewives envy Ma'am Charing's paradigm shift from her promising personal
career to being a full-time housewife which apparently paid off as evidenced by
the achievements of all her children. Husbands will truly appreciate the epitome
of a housewife that Ma'am Charing exemplified as she successfully maintained being
the inspiration behind the throne.
Her
being a constant companion in all of the Travelogues brought her to major places
all over the world when trips abroad were still rare and uncommon but still she
managed to be a low profile figure as a regular church-goer not to mention her
silent charity works.
And
every woman should have yearned being in her shoes with the way she was courted
and her heart won by a suitor who rose to be recognized as the dean of community
newspapering.

For
almost two days since Friday, the city and the rest of Bohol experienced moderate
winds but with gusty winds brought by Tropical Storm "Frank".
Storm
Signal No. 1 was hoisted over the province until last night. Although we have
not received any major incident as of press time last night, but we wonder if
the local government units have activated their disaster councils with the advent
of the stormy season.
Local
officials should maintain a pro-active rather than reactive attitude when it comes
to natural calamities that threaten the lives and limbs of the populace.

The
timely intercession of Regional Director Mordeno of the Department of Education
(DepEd) last week doused cold water to the fire that has started to spread between
the old and the new city hall.
City
Mayor Dan Lim has served a 60-day notice for the city schools division to vacate
from the old city hall building after he expressed dismay over the manner upon
which new teachers are being hired for the city's public schools.
True
to form, Norma Varquez, city OIC division superintendent, did not budge an inch
despite Lim's protestations. The fire sparked by the feud could have gutted down
the city schools division's occupancy at the old city hall building had Mordeno
did not come into the picture courtesy of Dr. Elpidio Jala, schools division superintendent
of Bohol.
