campaigner Glenn Pardilo Jr of Brgy Pandan, Tubigon eked out a losing middle game
by sacrificing his queen against a rook and three pawns of Booy District's Ricardo
Ocoy that enabled him to push his h-pawn unmolested and claimed victory later
after three moves. Pardillo topped the one-day active chess competition held last
Saturday in the entertainment area, 3rd floor, Marcela Supermarket, Cogon District
this city. He scored 4.5 pts in the five-round Swiss System format chess tourney. |
Garcia-Hernandez's
Pete Rossell placed solo second with four points by outwritting Dampas District's
Kirk Bolotaolo in their Sicilian Defense encounter. Lindaville Subdivision's top
chesser, Jing Saniel and Ocoy tied for third place with 3.5 points. Calape's
Donde Gallego suffered successive loses against Ocoy and Maribojoc's George Vencilao
and placed solo 11th place with 2.5 pts.
The
chess event was one of the activities featured during the commemoration of the
"Fathers' Day Specials". Pepsi Cola Company through its Sales Manager,
Haylay Monton and Alturas Group of Companies' Marketing Officer Geraldine 'Gee'
Yu in cooperation with Tagbilaran City Chess Club organized the 30-minutes time
control tournament.
Pardillo
received P2,000 cash while Rosell went home richer with one thousand pesos. All
eighteen participants received Certificates of Participation before the Essay
