The members of
the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and Mindanao (PHAVISMINDA) had their
31st Conference at Tubod Flowing Water Resort at Minglanilla in Cebu.
Members
are from universities and colleges in the Visayas and Mindanao areas like Cebu
Doctor's University, Cebu Normal University, University of San Carlos, University
of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu Institute of Technology, Holy Name University, Colegio
San Agustin - Bacolod, Negros Oriental State University-Bayawan, Rogationist Seminary
College-Cebu, Silliman University-Dumaguete City, Southern Leyte State University;
| St.
Paul's Business School-Palo, Leyte, University of San Agustin-Ilo-ilo, and University
of St. La Salle in the Visayas area and Alfonso Tan College-Tangub City, Ateneo
de Davao University, Bukidnon State University, Davao Doctors College, La Salle
Univesity-Ozamis City, Liceo de Cagayan University, San Pedro College-Davao, and
Xavier University of the Mindanao area.
In
this intellectual gathering, the active PHAVISMINDA members reelected Dr. Eddie
R. Babor of Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City as president. It was in 2006
when Dr. Babor was elected president during the 30th Phavisminda Conference held
at Silliman University in Dumaguete City. Babor will serve PHAVISMINDA until 2010.
The
31st PHAVISMINDA Conference was flavored by the talks of prominent speakers in
the likes of Fr. Dionisio Miranda, SVD, S.T.D (president, USC-Cebu City), Br.
Romualdo Abulad, SVD, Ph.D. (chairman, Philosophy Dep't. USC), Fr. Michael Moga,
S.J., Ph.D. (Ateneo de Zamboanga), Romulo Bautista, Ph.D. (Ateneo de Davao University),
Rosario Espina, Ph.D.(professor of Philosophy, USC), Reynaldo Rivera, Ph.D. (Chairman,
Philosophy Dep't. Silliman University), Prof. Ma. Theresa Quiñones (Xavier
University, Cagayan de Oro City), Prof. Ruby Suazo, Ph.D. (USC), and Fr. Ramon
Echica, S.T.D (Seminario Mayor de San Carlos, Cebu City).
It
can be recalled that at HNU, Babor had served as Dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences (1996-1999), Chairman, Social Sciences Dep't (1994-1996), Director Research
Center (1993), and Asst. Director, Student Affairs Office (1989-1992).
Also,
Babor has authored three textbooks in Philosophy published by Rex Book Store and
C & E Publishing, Inc., respectively and some articles in internationally
and locally refereed journals. Congratulations Dr. Ed Babor (Lubrig Pascual).
