Probe on BDRC

An investigating team of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is looking into the assault of the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) last Tuesday which resulted to the death of an inmate.

Meanwhile, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Bohol Chapter will also form its own probe team to ascertain if "excessive or brutal force" was used during the operation at the detention facility.

found in Subic

PAMPANGA. At least 30 kilograms more of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were recovered by agents of the Presidential Anti-SmugglingGroup and Task Force Subic yesterday raising to 744.66 kilos the total haul of illegal drugs recovered at the Subic Bay Freeport.

Divers of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority found the latest contraband in three boxes floating in the sea off the ship repair facility, the same area where a Taiwanese vessel suspected to be carrying the cargo docked, according to Colonel Rolando Magno, chief of the Task Force Subic, the anti-smuggling arm of the SBMA.

Banal starts training
for first title crack


Bohol's best world prospect AJ "Bazooka" Banal is in deep preparation for his first crack at the world title at the ALA Gym in Cebu city.

Since last week, the undefeated Corella, Bohol-native has already logged more than 70 rounds against the likes of Hilario "Bon Jovi" Canillas and the veteran Pedro 'Corbita' Malco for the WBA superfly title in Cebu City on July 26, according to CDN correspondent and ring judge Salven Lagumbay.

Power rate hike hearing on Thurs

Power consumers of Bohol Light Company Inc. may have to shoulder additional charges on their electric bills.

The power utility firm which holds exclusive power distribution here in the city has applied with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for authority to recover national franchise taxes paid from 2001 to 2006 and local franchise taxes paid to the city government of Tagbilaran from 2002 to 2008.

RESTORING 'LAW AND ORDER'

 

The United States aptly pointed to the root causes badgering the Philippines: Corruption and No Rule of Law.

The two are related: corruption is unabated because the law has short hands in punishing the guilty; crime is thus repeated wantonly without impunity. Nothing can be closer to the truth.
