WBO
Super flyweight king AJ "Bazooka" faces the
toughest test of his young pro career in a very crucial
fight against an equally undefeated banger from Uruguay
- Caril Herrera in a 12-round eliminator on April 6
at the historic Araneta Coliseum.
Michael
Aldeguer, ALA Promotions prexy, earlier informed CDN
correspondent Salven Lagumbay that the Banal-Herrera
bout will now be an eliminator to determine who will
be the no. 1 contender to IBF superfly champ Dmitri
Kirilov of Russia.
|
Aldeguer,
however, was quick to point out that this is not a mandatory
position, meaning, should Banal come out victorious, the IBF
will still honor Vic Darchinyan as the mandatory challenger
to Kirilov, with the winner facing Gorres next.
|
|
|
Gorres
and Darchinyan camps have earlier agreed that the Australian
fighter gets his first crack at Kirilov, with the agreement
that should he come out victorious, Gorres will be granted
a rematch of their highly-publicized first bout.
Banal
versus Herrera is just one of the explosive undercard
bouts on the Gerry Penalosa - Ratanachai Vorapin showdown
on April 6.
Also set to see action is Rey "Boom Boom"
Bautista who will duke it out against Genaro Camargo
in another 12-round encounter.
|
Also
seeing action in front of mainstream crowd for the first time
is WBO Oriental and Asia Pacific superbantam titlist Ciso
Morales, who will take on a Korean challenger. (-Manny B.)
