Loboc Children's Choir
sings at PETA Theater

After a brief hiatus from the concert scene, Bohol's pride, the Loboc Children's Choir (LCC), a national and international champion in music competitions (NAMCYA-1st Place in 1993, 1995 and 2001, and Barcelona Song Festival,
2003), will have a two-day concert in Manila (April 12 and 13, 2008), with two shows each day (3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) at the PETA Theater Center (New Manila, QC).

Supporting the LCC in providing beautiful music to the audience are four other choir groups who will join them in this meaningful event, namely, UP Cherubims and the Mandaluyong Children's Choir (on April 12), and the Ateneo Chamber Singers and UP Singing Ambassadors (on April 13).

Dubbed 'Encuentro Filipino the Manila Concert', the show will feature the best of the choir's repertoire to date, with special stress on music reflecting the interaction of cultures between the Philippines and Spain during the colonial period. Part of the proceeds will be used for the children's airfare to the U.S., where they will have a series of shows in 14 cities.

As a special highlight of the concert, there will be a 7-minute powerpoint presentation on the 'International Conference on Filipino-Hispanic Cultural Heritage', which the group will attend at the University of California at Riverside, Los Angeles (April 26-27), and at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire (May 3-4). The LCC will depart on April 15 and will be back on June 5.

To date, this world-renowned corps of singing children from the riverine town of Loboc will perform for Filipino-American and Boholano communities in Seattle, Olympia, Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Houston, Laredo, San Francisco, Lincoln, San Diego, Kansas, and St. Louis.

In addition to the U.S. tour mission, part of the money raised will help promote scholarship programs for talented but indigent choir alumni/alumnae who wish to take up college education in the field of music, and the restoration of the Loboc Church (a National Heritage Site and a National Cultural Treasure). To date, initial sponsors for the project have been OISHI-Liwayway Marketing Corporation, Bench, SPK Pinoy Incorporated, and Pioneer Insurance.

Betty Veloso Garcia, chairperson of the international reunion of Boholanos all around the globe called TBTK (TIGUM BOL-ANON SA TIBUOK KALIBUTAN) has organized three shows at the Eastcoast : May 9 in Manhattan sponsored by TBTK, Inc. and Alliance of Manila and Philippine Islanders, SA: May 10th sponsored by the Tagbilaranons of Eastern USA with Rev. Fr. Fernando Po and May 11th sponsored by Rev. Fr. Jed Sumampong of the Mary Immaculate Parish at the Jamaica Estates, New York. She is also calling on all Boholanos from around the world to come home for the next TBTK in July 2009, 16-26, to their home province -Bohol. Held triennially, it has evolved into the biggest, merriest and most anticipated homecoming of transplanted Boholanos.

TBTK came into its own in 1999, followed in 2003 and 2006 when expatriate Bol-anons from all over the globe descended on their dear province for ten days of revelry, rebonding and endless reunions with loved ones and old haunts.
