The
most important piece of legislation passed by the 10th Sangguniang
Panlungsod last Monday was a resolution authorizing city Mayor
Dan Lim to enter into Contract of Services with accounting
professionals who will work with the city accounting office.
As
chairman of the committee on personnel and reorganization,
we authored and sponsored the resolution acting upon the request
of Kurt Bongabong, officer-in-charge of the city accounting
office who wrote the city mayor on the need to hire accounting
professionals as his office is staffed mostly by bookkeepers
and clerks.
Upon
the endorsement of the city mayor, we got the recommendation
from the human resources
development office through Mario Lloyd Gutierrez who recommended
the hiring of accounting professionals as there is no plantilla
position available yet. The measure was approved on mass motion
by the members of the city council.

During
his presiding officer's time, Vice Mayor Jose Antonio S. Veloso
announced the launching of his own radio program over station
DYRD starting today and every Wednesdays thereafter from 10
to 11 o'clock in the morning.
City
Councilor Ann Mariquit D. Oppus will co-anchor the vice-mayor
in his new radio program. Veloso made it clear that his radio
program is not paid out of the budget from his office nor
from the city council.
We
welcome the vice-mayor's new radio program while we also suggested
that the sessions of the city council will also be covered
live every Tuesday afternoon by local radio stations.

The
atrium of the new city hall was filled to the brim including
its lobbies in the second and third floors yesterday afternoon
as the committee on public utilities chaired by City Councilor
Nerio D. Zamora II held a public hearing on the proposed ordinance
providing for a new scheme in the operation of tricycles in
the city.
The
committee members came in full force including City Councilors
Edgar Bompat, Lucio Balbin and Oppus. Having undergone the
rigors of holding public hearings involving ticklish issues
like tricycles, we just watched in the sidelines the emotionally-charged
public hearing as the committee tried to parry the oral argumentation
of the tricycle drivers and operators.
Yes,
Bob Galero, it was a real democracy in action.

It's
all systems go for the holding of the Central Visayas Regional
Athletic Association (CVRAA) meet to be hosted for the first
time by the Tagbilaran City division.
In
our meeting with the city school board led by Mayor Lim yesterday
afternoon, we approved the P2.6 million budget for the CVRAA
which will be held starting on March 26.
Dr.
Norma Varquez, the newly-designated city division superintendent,
said the city's private and public elementary and high schools
will field 600 athletes for the major sports event.
