Warning to landslide,
flood-prone localities

By KIT BAGAIPO

The Bohol Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has issued an advisory especially in communities that are flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

The warning came after the Philippine Atmospheric Geo-Physical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts

that Bohol will experience continued scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains until tomorrow, Thursday.

As heavy rainfall usually causes landslides and floods, the OCD and Pagasa warned residents near rivers and cliffs to prepare.

The areas identified as flood and landslide-prone are Abatan in Maribojoc, Loboc, Pres. Garcia, Ubay, Bien Unido, Loon, Loboc River, Wahig River in Inabanga, Cortes, Tubigon, Lila, Garcia Hernandez, Dimiao and Jagna.

These towns had histories of flooding and landslides, according to the OCD.

Areas that are flood-prone will be the most affected whenever landslides occur from elevated places.

Pagasa likewise warned those who are residing at the foot of hills or mountains, cliffs and elevations as prolonged rains could soften the ground.

According to Pagasa, Tagbilaran registered 39.8 centimeters of rainfall since Monday while the eastern province of Dumaguete has also registered 69.4 centimeters of rainfall during the past 24 hours.

This occurred while tropical depression "Butchoy" passed the country towards Japan, according to satellite data.

Meanwhile, the Pagasa also spots another low pressure area about 480 kilometers from the province of Zambales in Luzon.
