| | PERNIA | | A
multi-sectoral forum will discuss the points raised by a Boholano UP professor
and former lead economist of the Asian Development Bank who will be arriving today
for the said forum.
The
forum with Dr. Ernesto Pernia, of the University of the Philippines, is set at
Jojie's Bakeshop along VP Inting Avenue at 2 p.m. today.
The forum invited
Gov. Erico Aumentado, who begged off his attendance due to pressing matters and
series of meetings. However, he told the organizers that he will be available
for the dialogue after the return of Pernia from the United States next month. |
In
his press statement last week, Pernia considers the P4.2 billion airport project
a waste of scarce government funds which can be utilized for investment.
| | | He
said the construction of another international airport is unjustified on the part
of the government considering the country has eight existing international airports,
two of which are proximate to Bohol.
Putting
an airport in Panglao will also set off commercialization and over building which
would eventually lead to the deterioration of its environment, Pernia claimed.
Formerly
a professor of Pres. Arroyo, Pernia said what would be more practical is the construction
of a much better domestic airport, but not in Panglao. | The
forum will be attended by those who signed a manifesto seeking a dialogue on the
proposed airport.
Engr.
Nilo sarigumba, whistle- blower of the questioned irrigation project said that
attending the forum are residents opposed to the airport project and likewise
residents of Alburquerque town who are against the cluster sanitary landfill project. |
