for Bohol-Jiangxi Day

Three ranking officials of Jiangxi Province, China will be arriving here this morning to lead an official delegation to commemorate with local officials the First Bohol-Jiangxi Friendship Day.

Pengpeng, deputy director general of foreign affairs; Zhu Jincheng also of the Chinese foreign affairs office, Jiangxi Provincial People's Government.

Accompanying the VIPs are Ambassador Carlos Chan, Philippine special envoy to China; Philippine consul-general to China Emelinda Lee-Pineda; and Li Peiming.

Special envoy Chan's delegation will also include 11 Chinese businessmen.

   

The group will arrive aboard a PAL flight from Manila this morning. They will be met at the city airport by Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera and Provl Administrator Tomas Abapo Jr.

The Bohol-Jiangxi Friendship Day grand program will be tomorrow at the Bohol Cultural Center at 10 a.m. This will be preceded by a flag raising ceremony of both provinces at the Rizal Park at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

There will be a singing of the national anthems of the Phippines and the People's Republic of China, to be sung by the Capitol Choir and the Bohol Wisdom School Choir respectively.

Some 30 groups will also perform for the guests in a street dance tomorrow to showcase the first international treaty of friendship entered into by Boholano chieftain Datu Sikatuan and the Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.

The main highlight of the celebration is the inauguration of the Loboc Riverbank Lighting project donated by Ambassador Chan. A floating dinner fellowship will climax the affair tomorrow evening.

THE PACT

Bohol and the province of Jiangxi inked an agreement of friendly relations on May 8, 2006 in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi. The agreement was signed by Gov. Erico Aumentado and Jiangxi Gov. Huang Zhiquan.

On May 16, 2006 a provincial ordinance was adopted declaring the 8th day of May and in the coming years thereafter as the Bohol-Jiangxi Friendship Day.

The agreement signed with the principle of equality and mutual benefit for both provinces.

Both sides agreed to conduct exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, education, sports, public health and others with the view of common prosperity and development.

The Chinese delegation will be here Friday.
