Warning to landslide,
flood-prone localities

The Bohol Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has issued an advisory especially in communities that are flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

The warning came after the Philippine Atmospheric Geo-Physical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts that Bohol will experience continued scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains until tomorrow, Thursday.

"POWERLESS AGAINST POWER"

 
 This is not Lent - and this is not an act of self-flagellation. But something doesn't quite fit.

The Philippines is the only
Christian nation in the Far East but is also the most corrupt in Asia.

It has one of the highest population growth rates but with the one of the lowest per capita income in the region. It has one of the richest agricultural land there can be but is the world's biggest importer of rice. It used to be a haven of good English-speaking labor then; today it has one of the highest labor cost in the region of workers with broken English and prone to be Juan Tamad.

Senate probes
on power sector

MANILA. Congressional investigations on alleged irregularities in the power sector show a poor track record in finding solutions to the problems, our check of previous Senate investigations reveals.

Not one of the investigations has led to legislation. Moreover, our research shows that past resolutions calling for probes into various energy issues, including the National Power Corporation's increase in generation rate, were merely archived.
