City lawmakers allied with the city mayor rejected on Friday a proposal for the turn over to the city government of the controversial drainage project from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

RP to feel crisis
impact next year

MANILA. The country will feel the full impact of the global economic crisis next year in the form of a possible slowdown in exports and business activity, but the government is ready to address this, Finance Secretary Margarito Teves said.

"The financial turmoil initially affected the US and Europe. In Asia, it will probably take place next year…There's a time lag in terms of the impact of a global economic slowdown. The time lag will affect Asia, by next year, more than this year," Teves said. FULL STORY

The Filipino boxing star then immediately took some bites of ripe bananas and orange juice prepared for him by his team, which includes renowned trainer Nonito Donaire Sr.
"This time, I am not really having a very hard time making weight. I had enough time to do it," said Donaire prior to the official weigh-in attended by promoter Bob Arum and hosted by Lupe Contreras.
