Surgical,
medical mission scheduled in NovemberThe
Alona Medical Mission (AMM), a Honolulu, Hawaii and Australia-based volunteer
organization that provides free health care to underserved people overseas is
scheduled to conduct its first surgical and medical mission in Bohol, Nov. 17
to 21, this year at the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital (GMPH) in Talibon,
Bohol.
This
was announced through the office of Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado. The provincial
government sponsors the humanitarian undertaking.
Also
supporting the event are GMPH chief, Dr. Harold B. Gallego Vice Gov. Julius Caesar
F. Herrera and provincial administrator Atty. Tomas Abapo Jr. assisted by the
Philippine Gift of Life, Department of Health, Philippine Army group, LGU Talibon
through Mayor Juanario Item.

S. Baluyot, consultant on health and social services advised that the team composed
of licensed surgeons, physicians, medical nurses and allied professional volunteers
headed by Dr. Alice Dumlao (Australia), Rev. Alex Vergara (Hawaii) and Gen. Charlie
Holganza (Philippines) aims to provide and devote their time and skills to perform
free surgical services to underprivileged Boholanos.
Provincial
Board Member Cesar Tomas Lopez, M.D., chairman of the SP committee on health likewise
informs that the different cases to be attended are goiter, gall bladder, myoma,
facial deformities as cleft lip-palate, hernia, clubfoot, and ovarian cyst among
others. | Provincial
health officer, Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot added that aside from the surgical operation,
free medicines and health consultations will also be done at the Talibon gymnasium.
Registration
and listing of patients are ongoing at the Office of the Consultant on Health
and Social Services, Capitol Building, Marapao Street, this city and at the Municipal
Health Office in Talibon. Listing will end first week of November.
