No more finger-pointing and buck-passing this time.

A solution is finally forthcoming on the city's drainage problem after a tense 2-hour coordination conference yesterday presided by Gov. Erico Aumentado.

The governor decided that commercial buildings and households tapping their sewer lines into the city drainage will be given 30 days to voluntarily plug their illegal connections.FULL STORY

 

CLEAR-CUT END. The drainage problem in the city, with no clear-cut solution during the past 21 months, finally came to an end with a ray of hope for its ultimate solution during yesterday's coordination meeting presided by Gov. Erico Aumentado together with City Mayor Dan Lim, PENRO Nestor Canda and DWPH District Engr. Celestino Adlaon. The crucial two-hour meeting at the Governor's Mansion was decided to give the illegal connectors 30 days to cut their connections from the newly completed city drainage system. Foto DANNY REYES

WHO warns on illegal entry
of China milk products

The World Health Organization (WHO) yesterday said neighboring countries of China should guard against the illegal entry of melamine-contaminated milk products from Chinese firm Sanlu Group, which has sickened thousands of children in the communist state.

Anthony Hazzard, WHO Regional Adviser in Food Safety, said the WHO has already informed all 167 member countries of the International Food Safety Authority Network to monitor marketplaces for the possible entry of Sanlu milk products. He said the Chinese Ministry of Health has recorded more than 54,000 cases of Chinese infants being hospitalized as a result of drinking Sanlu infant milk products.FULL STORY
