take oath April 28 The
three successful barristers from the Holy Name University will be taking oath
before the justices of the Supreme Court on April 28, 2009 at the Philippine International
Convention Center, along with 1,307 other new attorneys who passed the 2008 bar
examinations, one of the toughest in years, the results of which were announced
on April 3, 2009.
The
cream of the crop of the HNU College of Law, consistently producing lawyers since
1952, consists of Atty. Ronaldo C. Escauso, who hails from Tubigon, Bohol; Atty.
Renato C. Renegado from Cortes, Bohol; and Atty. Fidel S. Tutor, Jr. of Lindaville
Subdivision, Tagbilaran City.
Atty.
Tomas D. Abapo, Jr., HNU Law Dean, said that the notable mark of HNU's new lawyers
is that all of them were having full time jobs and families to support while they
were going through law school.

Escauso, finished his Bachelor in Philosophy at the Christ the King Seminary in
Quezon City. He was employed at the Mater Dei College in Tubigon in the year 2003,
gave up the employment temporarily when he enrolled in the college of law, taught
for a few years at the Bohol Wisdom School, then went back to Mater Dei after
taking the bar examinations. He is married to Ma. Luz Baura, municipal assessor
of Tubigon and has one child.
Atty.
Renegado works at the People's Fair Trade Assistance-Center, Inc., Bool District,
Tagbilaran City, where he had been employed since 1994. He is married to Ma. Janette
Bustrillos with whom he has four children. | Atty.
Tutor joined the Philippine National Police in 1995 with his first stint at the
Regional Mobile Group 7 in Negros Oriental. When he was eventually transferred
to the PNP Bohol Provincial Police Office in 2004, he enrolled at the HNU College
of Law. His wife is Ma. Felonila Buslon, a staff nurse at the Tagbilaran Maternity
Hospital. He has two kids, the first being already in third year high school.
Dean
Abapo said that among the innovations of his department, in addition to its Law
Center, is the conduct of mock bar examinations for its third year and fourth
year students. The mock bar, currently chaired by Professor Danilo A. Bantugan,
is on its second year. It aims to expose graduating law students to the rigors
of actual bar examinations, from filing of applications to take the bar and to
the release of examination results. Dean Abapo also disclosed that the university
has provided the department with the facilities of a moot court which will be
operational at the start of the school year.
The
new HNU lawyers take pride in taking their oaths with fellow Boholana Atty. Majesty
Eve L. Jala, the fourth placer in the 2008 bar, a graduate from the Ateneo de
Manila. Majesty Eve is the daughter of Atty. Eladio Jala, former congressman,
himself an alumnus of HNU College of Law. Atty. Adam Relson L. Jala, incumbent
congressman of the third district, also finished law at Ateneo de Manila, and
is presently a professor at HNU Law department.
Meanwhile,
the Law Department, through Atty. Rene Paredes, Asst. Dean and Director of the
HNU Law Center announced that enrolment to the College of Law will starts on May
4, 2009. Interested students may contact the HNU Law Center at the third floor
